SBHA Chapter 25

Chapter 25. A Matter Of Time

Yu Ze looked at Song Yan’s eyes and immediately knew what he meant.

He at once shook his head, “There is no such way.”

Song Yan had already wrapped his arms around his shoulders as he whispered, “There is. We need only to make our relationship public. Right now, my mother, my brother, your sister and also your psychologist all know that Yu Ze and Song Yan are together, so therefore, there’s no harm in letting everyone else know.”

“We are not together, ” Yu Ze replied.

“You, look – look at the distance between us now,” Song Yan’s voice was soft, “Who can get more intimate in distance than this? With such a secret as ours, who can even get in between us? We only have each other. It’s just as that saying goes; a thing that looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, is therefore a duck. If we only have each other, and if we cannot separate from the other, then, we are therefore together.”

Yu Ze could feel that energy of Song Yan’s. Song Yan was obviously in his body right now, but his strength and vigor was yet much stronger than Yu Ze’s; it even had the charismatic feel so unique to Alphas.

Yu Ze had often felt it before, but this was the first time it was this intense. And seeing how Song Yan was this determined, it was as if he’d long mulled over this moment before.

Zhou Meng Ye’s appearance was only an opportunity for him to explode.

Yu Ze took a step back, before he said, “If it’s just for settling this matter of Zhou Meng Ye, we do not necessarily have to be that anxious. He can just be left hanging.”

Song Yan’s face showed his obvious disappointment, but he quickly recovered, “But I think it’s just a matter of time.”

“What is a matter of time?” Yu Ze asked.

Song Yan looked at him, “Teacher Yu, a person as smart as you, why can’t you think of it? If we continue on like this and don’t change back, sooner or later we’ll….”

He didn’t want to say “get married”, lest the phrase scare Teacher Yu, and so he tactfully said, “Being together is a matter of time, as is publicizing our relationship. If not, then two bachelors always being stuck together? That’s really just too strange.”

Yu Ze was, for a moment, stunned – he hadn’t expected that Song Yan would consider things this frankly. He himself never taking the initiative to bring up “what to do if we can’t change back” seemed instead like an escape from reality.

Still shocked, he slowly sat down. Song Yan perched on the edge of the sofa next to him, and cautiously, carefully took his hand, just as if he was comforting a terminally-ill patient.

Yu Ze was silent – while he couldn’t really say what was wrong, but somehow, something about this matter didn’t seem quite so right.

After a long time, Yu Ze finally spoke up, “I haven’t yet given up on the hope of changing back. Perhaps we will at once change back tomorrow. Our relationship doesn’t yet need a grand display of flags and drums*. That will only make others unable to make sense of us.”

* 大張旗鼓 – idiom; on a grand scale; with great fanfare; with colors flying and the band playing

While Song Yan didn’t think it prudent to ask more from Teacher Yu, he’d the confidence that things would involuntarily progress to that step.

However, although Yu Ze said he didn’t want to let the outside world be confused by their relationship, there already were people in the outside world talking.

This could all be blamed on the two getting in touch with the other too often. For matters related to the theater, they would frequently arrange to meet there. And for the sake of the Song Family’s businesses, they had often met and left together. And also, Yu Xin had eaten with the two of them quite a few times. Those who’d witnessed them together were increasing in numbers.

And as for Yu Xin, while she didn’t deliberately say anything, the photo uploaded onto the Internet yet laid bare this little secret – the picture that Yu Xin posted was a photo of herself eating with her brother. But there was obviously a third set of eating utensils on the table and an extra hand had been caught in the blurry corner – and netizens had quickly analyzed it to be precisely the hand of “Second Young Master Song”! The watch on that wrist was the exact same one Second Young Master Song had been recently wearing!

What a huge and exciting discovery! Yu Ze and Song Yan had all along been coming and going so quietly – they’d even met the other’s family already!

What was even more astonishing, though, was that not only had “Second Young Master Song” been working on a theater lately, rumor had it that the stage play version of “Bright” would also be arranged by him. Who’d even expect Song Yan to become a manager-cum-stage director of a theater? If he said he hadn’t been influenced by Yu Ze, no one would believe him.

It was just a pity that, in the face of such speculation and discussion, neither of the two parties involved came out to say anything about it.

“Second Young Master Song” was hard to get an interview with, and even if there was an interview, questions about matters regarding personal relationships weren’t permitted. Although everyone was curious about it.

And as for “Film Emperor Yu Ze”, he was more tightly controlled with interviews as of late; there wasn’t even the slightest degree of inclination of loosening his mouth.

But an opportunity eventually arrived; a certain international film festival had its domestic opening in the summer – and “Yu Ze” had been invited to attend; to present an award as an honored guest.

Song Yan, despite being unable to act, still had quite the imposing manner when on the red carpet. And as soon as he stepped onto the red carpet, the movie fans that’d been waiting for him all went wild. The flashes went off so crazily, even the Song Yan accustomed to grand events had been flashed to the point of finding it hard to endure.

But these cheers and these lights – they could really give one an unexpected sort of satisfaction.

Song Yan didn’t know if Yu Ze enjoyed this heady elation of being pursued by thousands of people, but he absolutely loved it. How vain! Vain! Song Yan silently chided himself in his heart as he smiled and waved at the fans. His bearing was extremely elegant and unaffected as he exerted himself to leave behind 360 degrees of without-a-blind-spot beauty – so that all who met this leather purse* of a man this night would never, ever forget for the rest of their lives.

* 皮囊 – literally means “a bag made from a skin/pelt/fur”; but figuratively used here to talk about the “body” as a vessel/bag for the soul

Some reporters loudly asked, “Teacher Yu, is it true you’re dating Song Yan?!”

“Teacher Yu, why did Song Yan build a theater? Will you be starring there?”

They even hoped to irritate “Yu Ze” – if Teacher Yu showed even the tiniest bit of a slip-up, then there would be news to write. It was just a pity that Song Yan’s expression didn’t change; it was almost as if he’d completely blocked off questions related to his romantic affairs.

After entering the venue, Song Yan saw Qiao Ruo Ming. While he knew that Qiao Ruo Ming would also attend, he hadn’t expected that the organizers would arrange their seats this close.

Song Yan wasn’t thrilled. He called the assistant, Xiao Chen, over, “How did you communicate with the organizers? Why has my seat been arranged this close to Qiao Ruo Ming’s?”

Xiao Chen was startled; he felt that Teacher Yu had recently been stricter than he used to be.

“I….I will tell them, ” He nervously replied, “But….but, you are at Table 2, Qiao Ruo Ming is at Table 11; looking from the num…..numbers, should be, very far apart….”

Song Yan broke him off, “I understand. You looked only at the table numbers and didn’t look at the floor plan.”

Xiao Chen asked if he wanted to move his seat away at once, but Song Yan waved him off, indicating that that wasn’t necessary. As he wasn’t afraid of Qiao Ruo Ming – and as the situation was already like this – there wasn’t really the need to change his seat.

This was the first time time he met Qiao Ruo Ming since the day he made Yu Ze break up with the other.

Qiao Ruo Ming obviously also saw him as well.

Their eyes met mid-air. Qiao Ruo Ming squeezed out a smile full of contempt. Song Yan tried his best to maintain that indifferent smile of Yu Ze’s on his face – he didn’t come today to pick a fight with Qiao Ruo Ming, but to exhibit Yu Ze’s “perfection”.

And at the same time the opening ceremony of the Film Festival was taking place, Yu Ze was with Song Yan’s father, Song Ruo Zuo.

He had come on Song Ruo Zuo’s request to accompany the latter on a visit to Song Yan’s grandfather, Song Zheng Ping.

Song Zheng Ping was eighty eight years old this year and was still passably well – just that he needed hearing aids as his ears weren’t so good. After seeing his grandfather, Yu Ze spoke for a while with Song Ruo Zuo.

Today, Song Ruo Zuo’s mood seemed very calm; he didn’t lose his temper. Shen Xi Jia had been serene as of late and, other than suing several tabloids, hadn’t taken any major actions.

“You have met Meng Ye already?” He asked Yu Ze.

‘Seems as if Song Ruo Zuo truly wishes for Zhou Meng Ye to marry Song Yan,’ Yu Ze thought in his heart.

“Already met,” He replied.

Song Ruo Zuo nodded, “Meng Ye, this child, is rather good, and most importantly, his character is good. This is more important than anything else, only like this will he not argue with you.” He seemed to be implying that Shen Xi Jia’s character wasn’t good enough.

Yu Ze merely listened. If Song Ruo Zuo felt that “Yu Ze” was getting in the way of Zhou Meng Ye, going by his temperament, what would Song Ruo Zuo do? He suddenly began to feel somewhat worried for Song Yan’s – and also for his own body’s – safety.

Song Ruo Zuo continued to speak,” I’ll be direct. I don’t care who you’re currently with. But you have to remember; some people are good for dating and playing around with, but marrying them? That’s an entirely different matter.”

Translator has something to say: Another beautiful job by the author in defining their different personalities. Mature, holds to his beliefs yet runs from sensitive topics; immature, full of wild ideas yet faces things straightforwardly. (But why do Song Yan’s words….sound like brainwashing to me???? XD) Two chapters as usual ~

  1. Geez, SRZ and SQ, both alike, are not looking for a lover but a pet. A partner is someone you can stick with through thick and thin, naturally you should treat each other on equal footing because you will depend on each other for the rest of your lives. Absolutely not that they are a dog who would only respond at your beck and call. That’s not how relationship works smh
